About International Film Festival of India
Founded in 1952, the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is one of Asia's most
prominent film festivals. Since 2004, it has moved to its permanent venue at Goa, where
it is jointly organized by DFF and the State Government of Goa, as per the International
Film Festival guidelines and protocols.
The Festival aims at providing a common platform for the cinemas of the world to project
the excellence of the film art; contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film
cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos, and
promoting friendship and cooperation among people of the world.
Every year IFFI celebrates some of the finest cinematic works and showcases a bouquet
of the best films from India and around the world. In 2013, on the occasion of completing
one century of the Indian Cinema, IFFI instituted the ' Indian Film Personality of the Year'
award. It is primarily given to those outstanding Indian film personalities for their
extraordinary contribution to the world of Indian cinema. The first recipient of the award
was veteran actress Waheeda Rahman.
Every year IFFI also honours a renowned film personality from the cinema world, with a
‘Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award' for their exemplary services and
path-breaking cinematic work. Legendary Italian director and screenwriter Bernardo
Bertolucci was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award in 1999.
